UK assistive technology developer, Dolphin Computer Access, has worked with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to enable blind and partially sighted people to access the charity’s Talking Books library using Dolphin’s EasyReader app, completely free of charge.
Alongside a comprehensive list of book and newspaper suppliers, people with sight loss can now browse, borrow and download talking books from the RNIB’s library on their smartphone or tablet using the charity’s Overdrive platform with EasyReader.
EasyReader has been specifically designed for readers with blindness, a visual impairment or dyslexia. The EasyReader app offers RNIB users one simple interface and access to all of their downloaded content in one place, on their choice of mobile device. Available on both iOS and Android devices, EasyReader opens up a world of possibilities for reading at home or on the move.
The addition of RNIB’s Talking Books library to EasyReader means that customers can now access three RNIB services – Talking Books, RNIB Newsagent and RNIB Bookshare’s Education Collection – on one app instead of having to use three different websites.
Noel Duffy, Dolphin CEO, said “We are so pleased to welcome RNIB Overdrive to the portfolio of accessible libraries available on the EasyReader app. We’re proud to help readers with low vision or blindness read millions of books and newspapers with our free app.”
Alison Long, RNIB Senior Manager for Consumer Services, said: “We’re delighted to work with Dolphin on this project. Their EasyReader app is making it easier than ever before for people with sight loss to enjoy the latest bestsellers, wherever and whenever they want to”.

We are the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). Every six minutes, someone in the UK begins to lose their sight. RNIB is taking a stand against exclusion, inequality and isolation to create a world without barriers where people with sight loss can lead full lives. A different world where society values blind and partially sighted people not for the disabilities they’ve overcome, but for the people they are.
