Location: Currently looking for clerks to be deployed to settings in the Broxbourne District including Waltham Cross, Hoddesdon and Cheshunt

- What is a clerk to governors?
This is a great flexible role, which can fit around other work/family commitments. The role provides an opportunity to support schools from a governance perspective and will increase your skills and knowledge of education legislation.
The role sits within the Governance team, who provide support through a range of services for governors, trustees and clerks.
The successful candidate will have a flexible approach to working hours, be a good communicator and an experienced administrator. They will provide advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.
What tasks does a HFL clerk do?
HFL clerks support schools in line with HFL Clerking terms of service. The main duties are:
- assist the governing board in drafting agendas and collating meeting papers
- attend the meeting in person and produce clear and effective minutes. The clerk will also need to be flexible to support remotely if requested by the school.
- advise the board on constitutional and procedural matters related to the meeting (training, resources and governance helpdesk support provided)
- maintain up-to-date membership of the governing board on the GovernorHub platform
Meetings are generally held in the evenings on fixed dates, but preparation and follow up actions will fit in with a clerk’s own availability (in line with HFL’s service expectations). There will also be opportunities to cover additional meetings and support governance panel meetings (after accessing training) for those clerks wishing to further build their knowledge in school governance.
Who are we looking for?
- individuals with good administration skills including attention to detail
- individuals invested in supporting schools through their governance
- experience of taking minutes would be an advantage
- experience in school governance and education is desirable, but full training will be provided
All successful candidates will be required to attend a clerk induction into the role via MS Teams on Friday 24th February.
Please note: The ability to reach different locations by car will be essential. If you drive, then a full driving licence and appropriate car insurance will be required.
