Lead Product Designer – Tassomai

Why Tassomai?

Tassomai’s vision is to be an indispensable education tool for everyone. Our current focus is to support teaching and learning in secondary science by making sure students learn in a more efficient and effective way, and by giving schools, teachers and parents the tools to help. We want to ‘level the playing field’ for those students without access to private tuition.

Over the next three years, Tassomai is focussing heavily on extending and improving our product, as well as new product development. As our lead product designer you’d not only shape a product which is helping students, teachers and parents all over the UK, you’d also get the opportunity to build a great design team in an exciting, growth-focussed startup.

What’s the Challenge?

At Tassomai we have an ambitious vision for how the education system can be improved with edtech. As lead product designer, you’d be responsible for realising that vision from research to production – that means having a head for strategy and a desire to provide a voice for design in the running of the company, as well as having the skills and willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved with the details of making great products.

You’ll be involved in forming, understanding and communicating Tassomai’s product strategy as it changes and evolves with contact with users.

You’ll also be pivotal in managing the growth we expect to be undergoing next year. We currently operate as a single cross-functional product team and think of Tassomai as a single product. Next year we’re expecting to split into multiple teams, each with a tighter focus on a segment of users and associated product, as well as starting work on two new products. You’d be responsible for constantly evaluating where the design team and processes need work, and hiring or communicating accordingly.

Duties and Tasks

• Be responsible for advocating for the importance of UCD, UX + UX research, lean and agile methodologies throughout the design team and whenever interacting with those outside the design team
• Work with product and engineering to define and improve the product design process. Be the ultimate owner of this process.
• Produce high quality sketches, wireframes and mockups at various degrees of fidelity, as necessary throughout a lean design process
• Define creative, usable, high quality interactions and experiences
• Own and help to define the user testing and user research process
• Help to define the design process for non-product design
• Work on and manage the brand and marketing website
• Be responsible for identifying staffing, process or other resource holes in the design team and helping to fill them
• Work with product managers and teams to improve the end to end product delivery process, including interactions with engineering, QA, product and wider business
• Mentor and manage junior product and visual designers
• Engage with the management and running of the business generally

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Deep knowledge and experience of UX and UI design
• Strong experience of user research, user testing, and an interest in product discovery
• Management and preferably also leadership experience
• Preferably experience working in product design at a SAAS company
• Strong web design and preferably also brand design credentials would be advantageous
• A passion for learning about users and designing solutions which solve their needs
• We use Sketch, Invision, Adobe Suite, so knowledge of some or all of those is good, but deep experience of alternatives is required
• Preferably, some experience of designing design processes in small – medium-sized companies and ensuring consistency across multiple teams
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript is a plus

Where would you be working?

We’re based on the 5th floor of an old pharmaceutical warehouse in Bethnal Green. It’s a co-working space and we’ve bagged the best office which is light and airy with a lovely balcony – we love it.
